One lost, two gained [closed]

Sitting next to his beautiful mate, Hazefur, Smokepelt and her sat outside of the nursery, watching their two newest kits lazily roll around on the dirt covered camp earth. Slatekit and Sagekit… his only source of slight distraction from what had happened only a sunrise ago. His beloved daughter, exiled right before his own eyes. He’d always known that she was strong willed and naive, but never had he imagined her getting in such an amount of trouble, and while she’d only been gone a day or so, the tom would never be the same after losing his most treasured kit.

But what in StarClan’s name had even gotten into her? Kindleblaze had just become a warrior, and the next thing he knew, she was making the same mistakes as he once did! When RiverClan had barged into the camp, demanding her pelt,of course the grey she cat had tried to deny her misdoings, and though he wanted to believe his daughter, what was done was done, whether it had been an accident or not. As for him… in the moment that her transgressions had come to the light, he’d never been more disappointed with her. He thought that he could trust her to make the right decisions with her growing up and taking on her warrior name; to not mess up like he’d done, but even though he’d warned Kindleblaze of this time and time again, her strong spirits and defensive loyalty to the clan had ended up costing the her her place as a WindClan warrior.

Those self absorbed, wretched, RiverClan cats had tried their best to get to him with their snide and pitiful remarks, but he knew his place and watched as his mother exiled her without a blink of an eye. Though Kindleblaze was his daughter, he’d made an oath to Ashstar, and while he wanted to cry out for Ashstar to have mercy, he had no opinion in the say in her exiling. Besides, a promise was a promise, and he wasn’t planning to break it anytime soon, even over his own kit being exiled. Well, he at least hadn’t been willing to start an argument in front of the whole clan, plus RiverClan, who were always waiting like hungry crows for any chance to tease and poke remarks at him.

So here he was, sitting with Hazefur, his head spinning with thoughts racing around as he internally grieved his disowned daughter while trying to seem at least somewhat happy around his newborn kits. The two of them were still so innocent and didn’t know the struggles of life yet, and Smokepelt wished that he would be able to keep things that way, for their sake. Kindleblaze and Ryecloud, both disappointments. Hopefully the two newest additions to the family would make him proud...

Neither of the two newborn kits were the incredibly energetic type. Sagekit stretched out on the ground, batting gently at a small strip of grass on the ground. Her green eyes darted back and forth as she looked at it move. It was a fun little game. Running around was not her favorite activity. The young she-cat preferred to simply take things in slowly, a little by little. Her claws unsheathed lightly as she tried to get a hold on the tiny green blade. After a few tries, it caught. The grey and white patched kit smiled softly to herself, glowing in a silent self pride. After a moment, Sagekit glanced up at her parents, her questioning gaze asked for approval. Listening to older cats seemed to be like a good idea to her, and she intended to stick to that.

On the other side of the nursery, Slatekit had discovered a much more active plaything: Smokepelt's twitching tail tip. The young tom loved when his father came around. Windclan's deputy was the most impressive thing to the little kit. He wanted nothing more than to grow up and be as big and strong as the cat he called 'dad'. His paws batted away at Smokepelt. However, unlike his sister's gentle play, he was more calculated. The mock blows were not wild or excited. Slatekit had no desire to be wild like the other kits in camp. That was not the proper way to behave. After a couple moments of attacking the wild tail tip, Slatekit decided to pin it down to the ground. Satisfied, he abandoned that activity.

"What are you thinking about?" The tom kit had padded up to his father and stuck his nose up against the deputy's. His light green eyes shined with admiration as he met Smokepelt's gaze.

Gustpuddle grinned as she approached the ever-growing Smokepelt army family."Hi there, little ones. Smokepelt." She attempted to find a spot next to her father, her protruding belly making it almost impossible to get comfortable."I hope it isn't much longer. Beetlepaw says it shouldn't be." She assumed he knew what she was talking about, with her constant tossing and turning. She finally decided to just stay put, she was as comfortable as she would get.
