Light Shining Off The Frozen Ground ~Open~

The sun was high in the sky, signifying it was near mid-day. As the rest of camp went on like usual Frozenkit sat beside her sister, practically vibrating with excitement. Their mother Poppyheart had told them that boring that they would get to leave the nursery for the first time today and Frozenkit couldn't wait. As their mother finished grooming Shiningkit and gave Frozenkit another firm lick over her head, trying to get her fluffy fur to stay down, Frozenkit squeaked in excitement. As their mother finally rose, satisfied, Frozenkit nudged Shiningkit roughly with her shoulder. "Race ya outside!" Turning the neutral toned she-kit sprinted towards the exit of the nursery, not even waiting for an answer from her sister.

"Hey, wait up!" Shiningkit called to Frozenkit. She stepped out into the clearing and gasped. " It's so beautiful out here! Frozenkit, I'm so excited!" her mew squeaked. I wonder if this is how all the kits feel when they step out of the nursery for the first time."What should we do?"

Frozenkit skidded to a halt once she had broken free of the confines of the nursery and stared around the camp in wonder. Answer sister came up behind her, Frozenkit's maw was still hanging open as her head swung from side to side, trying to take in everything at once with wide eyes.

As their mother stepped out behind them she chuckled at Frozenkit's amusing expression. This and Shiningkit's question snapped Frozenkit out of her awe-filled daze. A grin spreading across her maw Frozenkit looked around again. "I... I don't know..." Just as she spoke a strong breeze blew through the trees above, causing some of the very few remaining leaves to fall into camp along with a sprinkling of snow.

Frozenkit looked up at the trees excitedly, just in time for a mouse-sized lump of snow that had fell from a branch above to plop right onto her face. Frozenkit shriek in surprise, drawing the attention of everyone around them, and quickly started pawing at her face, trying to get the cold substance off.

Shiningkit watched her sister paw at her face and giggled a little. Then she mewed in wonder when a clump of the white, cold, watery, object fell on her face too. She shook her head to get it off, then looked around for something to do. "look, Frozenkit!" She meowed. "There's some moss here," she scraped up some moss from the ground and rolled it into a ball. " We can practice our hunting! Let's pretend that we're hunting the biggest, juiciest, vole that would feed at least half the clan! And if we caught it, our mentors would be so proud of us, they'd probably make us warriors on the spot!" She squealed with excitment. " let's start now!" She waggled her haunches, trying to get into a sloppy hunters crouch tat she had heard descriptions of briefly, and almost toppled over, but then righted herself. "Come on!"

Blacktwig's growing pelt wagged as he trotted up to the excitable kits. He gave a rusty purr, heartily eyeing the young she-cats. With everything happening, and grief drowning him, they were always little flickers of luminosity in the darkest of eras. "Hello," he meowed, passing by them. The two bundles tussled beneath him. All of his sorrow was almost instantly quelled—they were delightful! The sturdy tom grinned. "A vole, eh? I'm sure you'll catch the best." Blacktwig's mind swirled, hoping they weren't serious. Then, he thought, I'm worrying too much; it's harmless kit-play. Blacktwig laid down a little ways away from the kits.

Frozenkit looked over at his sister excitedly once the snow had been removed from her face, and turned to run over only to hump into the legs of Blacktwig. Looking up at the large warrior Frozenkit squeaked out a quiet hello. Her attention brought back to the idea of hunting a mischeivious gleam entered Frozenkit's eyes and she nodded at the tom. "Yeah we will!"

Bounding over to her sister she pressed bowed her head, whispering quietly to her sister. As she did this Poppyheart cleared her throat and gave the two kits a meaningful look, the one she always gave them when she knew they were planning something. As always Frozenkit gave their mother her most innocent smile before ducking her head down and continuing her hushed conversation with Shiningkit.

Blacktwig chuckled, feeling himself sink into the peaty moss. As the sunlight shone down from the canopies, all seemed good. An escapade away from the death and misery that often surrounded the world, he supposed.

Blazingkit, hearing the scuffling outside, padded out and stared at frozenkit and shiningkit chatting in hushed whispers. He readied himself to pounce, eyes shining, and tripped in mid-air, toppling into them clumsily. He spat out a mouthful of snow and giggled. "Got you again!" he mewed, a humorous glint in his eyes.

Frozenkit squeaked as Blazingkit tumbled into her and her sister. Jumping back up Frozenkit smiled and giggled a bit, helping her sister up. "Hey Blazingkit, wanna play with us?" Though Frozenkit was speaking to her paws she spoke clearly, which was a big step of progress for her.

"Sure!" he replied. Then, without warning, he flicked snow at the two she cats with his tail. Then, he ran away. "Bet you can't hit me with snow!" But as soon as he started running, he bumped into Blacktwig. "Oops! Sorry, Blacktwig," Blazingkit apologised. After, he began running again around the camp, waiting for Frozenkit and Shiningkit to chase him.

Blacktwig grinned at him, holding his tail close to his side. "It's fine," he said, "just be careful." The senior warrior bent his head down, and gave Blazingkit an encouraging nudge as he performed a nonsensical, merry farce with Shiningkit and her sister, Frozenkit. They'll make fine warriors one day, he praised pensively. He watched as they skittered off, skirting bunglingly around the clumps of hazel. He yawned widely.

Cloverkit padded out of the nursery, her long pelt shining like the warrior Cloverpool's used to. The she cat was an exact copy of the warrior, and she didn't know it caused some cats grief. "Blazingkit! Shiningkit! Frozenkit! Wait up I wanna play to!" The she cat meowed running over.

"Sure!" Blazingkit shouted, and continued running through the camp. He got hit by a lump of snow and fell, then flung more at his two friends following him, who were soon to be joined by cloverkit.

With snow in her face once more Frozenkit forgot her shyness and squeaked before bolting after Blazingkit. As Cloverkit ran over as well Frozenkit added a nit of a hop to her strides. "Hey, me and Shiningkit were planning a new 'Game'. Wanna join in?" Frozenkit added a bit of emphasis on the word game, something that Frozenkit and Shiningkit often did to signify they had some sort of mischief they were planning. Though the other kits and their mother knew this, everyone else in camp did not as Frozenkit and Shiningkit had never left the nursery before.

Thankfully, with a glance over at her, Frozenkit confirmed that her mother was too busy gossiping with the other queens to hear them. Huddling together with the other kits she spoke and soft whispers of the Blacktwig 'vole' hunt they were planning. "And while you two distract the vole me and Shiningkit will get it from behind. Then you can join in and help us kill it so we can feed the whole clan!" Frozenkit giggled a bit and looked to her sister, to confirm she hadn't missed anything.

There was another kit who had been watching the group playing for a while from where he had been lazing around beside the nursery. Boulderkit, Stormstrike's son, now piped up with excitement and bounded over to the group of kits, and Blacktwig. He skidded to a stop beside them, his gaze looking at each kit in turn.
"Oh! Can I play too?" He asked, voice full of excitement. There was a glimmer in his eye, similar to his father's, and he was practically struggling to calmly stand still.
