Just a Speckle (closed)

Softly trodden pawsteps made no sound as they traversed the moors, gazing at the stars. This was the usual for Mossfoot, her wanderlust still as strong as ever. A typical night, up until she'd rounded the stump.
The warrior blinked at the sound. Was that....a kit? Out here? At this hour? It sounded as though it was alone, and from what she could tell as she scented the air, foreign. Slowly, she padded forward towards the crying mewls, coming face to face with a lonely little one. Mossfoot instantly relaxed her gaze, it melting into one of utmost sympathy. "Oh, you poor little thing! Are you alright, love? Do you have parents?" she questioned, her voice as smooth as butter. It hadn't quite dawned on her that she'd never properly raised kits, so even if she were to take this one under her wing, she'd be flying solo. Never mind that - she'd faced worse problems.

The soon to be Specklekit mewled as she scented a unfamiliar cat. She crawled across the bare, rough ground trying to get closer to the she-cat. Her nose bumped into Mossfoot's soft, furry leg. She squeals, jumping back in shock. When she hits the bare, patchy ground she starts to cry out for warmth and food.

She remembers when she was in a soft flurry dark place, where her belly was full and her her fur clean. Then getting ripped away by a cold figure and being dumped here on the ground near the only stump there, the Lone Stump.

"Oh, you're too young to speak," Mossfoot realised. This kit must've been very young, a newborn even. "You don't seem to have any parents, do you? You're cold, and you look as through you're starving, you poor thing." She couldn't just leave it here, could she? The little one would surely die if it was left for much longer. In her mind, there was only one other thing she could do.
"Why don't you come with me, love? We'll live in WindClan together with the others, and you'll have an older sister and lots of friends. Oh, you'll need a name!" She studied the kit's pelt and appearance, looking for something distinctive, something that sounded right. "...Specklekit. Yes, Specklekit of WindClan,I like that. So, how's that name, Specklekit? You like it?" She smiled brightly at the newly named kit.
Maybe she would get a chance to be a mother after all.

 Specklekit smilies when she hears the name, excited by the kindness in the she-cat's voice but also scared about the sudden change of the wind direction. She tries to locate Mossfoot but finds it harder then before since the wind change. When she finally locates her, Specklekit mewls loudly trying to tell Mossfoot that she is hungry. Suddenly a big gust of wind blows through Specklekit's thin fur and blows her a little ways, crashing into the stump and tumbling down into a old badger set. Yowling out for help, trying to find a pawhold, she gets stick on a root not far from the entrance. She tries to climb back up to the she-cat but ends up tumbling down again. Eventually Specklekit stops struggling and waits to be lifted up. She mews one more time trying to get Mossfoot's attention. As she keeps on mewing, she starts to get tired. Soon she starts to fall asleep. When she finally falls asleep, she dreams that sue is watching the scene from outside her own body. In the dream she tried to call out to Mossfoot but realizes that the she-cat can't hear her.

The warrior chuckled a little as the kit kept trying to climb her pelt. "Ay, you hungry?" Mossfoot grinned, realising what Specklekit had been crying out for. "Oh sweetie, let's get you back to camp. We'll get you back up to strength there, alright?" She picked up the kit, a little surprised as how fast she had fallen asleep. Don't think I ever slept like that! With that, she turned around and began to head back. Her walk could wait - Specklekkt would be her top priority for now. Huh, priority. Can't say I've ever had those before, eh. She was responsible for this little one now. It wasn't like when she was reunited with Twistedtail, her daughter old enough to take care of herself. Though she considered herself an overprotective mother now, Twistedtail could hunt and fight, make friends - she'd even had kits. Specklekit had none of that, and it was up to her whether she lived or she died. "I'll keep you safe, love," she whispered into the kit's ear, an oath to both Specklekit and herself.

As Specklekit felt her self being lifted up, she squirmed remembering when she was taken away from her birth mother. But once she felt the warmth and kindness coming off from the she-cat, Specklekit calmed down and instantly fell asleep realizing how tired she was. As she was asleep, Specklekit dreamed about the first minutes she had been with her birth mother, Mousetail a rouge cat that got exiled by her clan before her kitting..blamed for murder. Then Speckle remembered the coldness that engulfed her as she was viciously ripped away from her mother. Soon she woke up frightened of the dream she just had. When she felt the warm fur against her back, she realized it was just a dream. *But was it really a dream if it had felt so real??? So....so....real....* Soon her thoughts drifted away as she fell into yet another deep sleep, this time dreaming about what a good life she believes she will now have.
