Hurry, Hurry. (Owlpaw's assessment )

Lightningstrike had encouraged his apprentice to take it easy the previous day. Mainly because, his assessment would be today. He glanced around, lounging on a low lying branch. Owlpaw would be here any moment now.

Owlpaw crept up the back of the tree, his claws soundless as they sank neatly into the frozen bark. His aqua eyes were half-narrowed with concentration, half-widened with anticipation. Muscles rippling through his short pelt, the older apprentice paused, then…

"Got cha!" he yowled, nearly scaring himself enough to fall off the branch. In the beginning of training, he had been so sore when his head hit the moss, he began to snore. Now the brown-ginger tabby had grown, and he was about 3/4 the size of his mentor. His shoulders had broadened, paws begin to fit his body. He looked a completely different cat from when he had first been apprenticed.

"Ready?" he chirped, eyes blazing with excitement, motivation surrounding him like a large, puffy cloud. "I won't disappoint, Lightningstrike."

He nodded "This won't be much, in the dead of Leafbare. Catch four pieces of prey and you'll have your warrior name by this time tomorrow. You won't fail simply because, you can't. This doesn't end until you've passed." he meowed. "Whenever you're ready, get going."

"Right!" the tom agreed, leaping down from the tree. He stole one last glance at Lightningstrike before beginning, tail swept round his ankles.

He scented the first piece of prey, hackles rising. The smell drifted into Owlpaw's nostrils, brought him into high alert. He stalked just as his mentor had taught him, fur rippling against his shoulders. When he was finally a few tail-lengths away, he crouched, waiting—then pounced!

It had caught the magpie off guard, and with a quick snap to its neck, it was fresh-kill. Lifting his head proudly, the apprentice looked around to gloat—but he couldn't see the familiar pelt of his mentor anywhere. Ringing inside with newfound confidence, he buried the bird next to a juniper bush and continued on his way.
