A Patrol for Flintpaw [closed]

Padding into the apprentice den, Mudfoot found Flintpaw's pelt among the other bundles of sleeping cats and gently prodded his apprentice's side. "Flintpaw, wake up," the tom meowed softly. Tonight, he'd take his apprentice on a hunting patrol and hopefully they'd be able to get through at least the basics.

Flintpaw's eyes opened slowly as his mentor told him to wake up. "What's up, Mudfoot?" he asked groggily. The gray tom wondered what the older cat wanted. Were they going to do some training?

"We're going hunting," he meowed and turned towards the entrance. "We should get going before all the prey is hunted out of existence!" Mudfoot chuckled and walked out of the apprentice den and into the chilly night air. Sitting down by the fresh-kill pile, the tom waited for Flintpaw.

Flintpaw stood up and stretched, getting the sleep out of his body. Yawning, he exited the den and headed towards the measly fresh-kill pile. "Alright, I'm ready when you are," he told his mentor.

Glad to see that Flintpaw wasn't keen on waiting around and leisurely eating, Mudfoot stood up and turned towards the entrance. The two padded into the thick wooded forest and after a few moments of silence, he turned to his apprentice. "Should we patrol or hunt first?" he asked, wanting to let Flintpaw have some decision making instead of him being in full control. Besides, it was always a good idea to let apprentice have some "authority" of their own, seeing that following a mentor around wasn't that exciting.

Flintpaw thought about his choice for a moment before deciding. "I think we should patrol first, I don't know the territory very well," he told his mentor.

"Very well," Mudfoot replied and padded towards Highpine. There usually wasn't much going on their but either way, it was always good to make sure. Once the patrol sooner reached their destination, the warrior looked to Flintpaw. "What can you gather just from the sights and scents of this place?" he asked.

Flintpaw took a sniff of the ground and immediately the smell of cats he knew from around the camp flooded his nose. However, most of the scents were stale, so he knew that nobody had been here for awhile. He told Mudfoot what he thought. "Well, mostly I smell a lot of cats from camp, but they're mostly all stale."

Nodding in agreement, Mudfoot turned around, preparing to head back to camp. "Good job. I'd say that will sum things up for today," the tom meowed with a smile and started to make his way back home. Flintpaw would make an excellent warrior, he could already tell.
