Petalpaw's Assessment

Tawnystorm sat by the edge of the camp, waiting for her apprentice. Petalpaw was almost ready to become a warrior, and she figured she was due for an assessment. The sun was past its highest point, and full daylight would only be here for a few more hours. She had no doubt Petalpaw would become a great warrior - maybe a little distracted at times, but a great warrior all the same.

Padding over to Tawnystorm, Petalpaw hoped she wasn't late. Being extremely excited, the apprentice was about to burst with joy but instead gave a curt nod. "Ready to go?" she meowed cheerfully to her mentor.

The warrior nodded, and began to pad out of camp, gesturing with her tail for the apprentice to follow. "Hurry along now," she meowed over her shoulder. Tawnystorm lead Petalpaw through the sea of tall grass and reeds, until they were at the riverbank. Fish swam by lazily, in plentiful amounts. Though Leaf-fall was drawing to a close, their aquatic prey didn't seem to have a problem with the cold, and the river hadn't frozen over either.
"I want you to catch me four fish. Remember what I have taught you, and you won't have a problem. I will be watching you from a hidden place - pretend I'm not here. Good luck." She gave her apprentice a reaffirming nod, and disappeared into the tall grass.

Nodding at her instructions, Petalpaw crept to towards the shore of the river and crouched down, being careful of the fish who might see her. With her tail lashing back and forth behind her, the apprentice waited patiently for something to come close enough and after a while of sitting still, she smacked her paw into the water, hooking the fish with her claws and as it flopped around on the shore, she gave it a killing bite. Good catch! Petalpaw complimented herself and buried a quick hole to put the fish in. Making her way back to the shore, she sat down again and went back to waiting.

After some more time, the apprentice had caught three more fish sat in front of her pile of prey, waiting for Tawnystorm to arrive from where ever she was hiding. The she-cat's pelt was soaked up to her belly from falling in and giving a shake, she tried to rid herself of the cold water.

Tawnystorm emerged from the tall grass, a small smile on her face. "Good job with that, Petalpaw. I'll talk to Fishstar about getting your warrior ceremony started soon."
Another apprentice, ready to become a warrior. At this rate, she'd be mentoring the whole Clan!

Letting out a meow of happiness, Petalpaw grabbed her prey and padded back to camp. Today, she'd proven that she would make a great warrior and couldn't wait to become one.
