Hunting is Easy [Closed for Cloverpool]

Vixenheart blinked as the sun began to rise, lifting it's bright head above the horizon. She hadn't taken her apprentice out to train yet, and she thought today should be the day she brought out Featherpaw. She padded over to the apprentices' den, stepping lightly and staying silent so she didn't wake the other apprentices. She poked her ginger and white head in, looking in both directions before spotting Featherpaw.
"Featherpaw!" She whispered, flicking a pebble at her apprentice gently, "Get up, it's training time!"
She flicked yet another small pebble at Featherpaw before backing her head out of the den and padding over to sit by the exit of the camp. Her amber eyes were focused on the opening of the apprentices' den, waiting for Featherpaw to come out so they could begin their first training session together. Vixenheart was the slightest bit nervous. She was a fairly new warrior, but she could handle an apprentice. Yet, covering all the nerves was excitement. She couldn't wait to pass down all she knew to Featherpaw. She knew her apprentice was very capable of becoming an excellent warrior of SkyClan one day.

Featherpaw opened her eyes, yawned and gave her self a quick wash. She padded out and flicked her tail in greeting. "Heyo Vixenheart! What are we gonna do today?" She purred.

"Today I'm going to teach you how to hunt." Vixenheart said, smiling down at her apprentice. She remembered when it was her own first time learning how to hunt, when she was only Vixen'paw' a while ago. She turned, flicking her tail as a signal for Featherpaw to follow her out of camp. To Vixenheart, this was a perfect time to hunt, because the prey were just beginning to come out of their nests and stir. In her head, the ginger and white she-cat also planned to show Featherpaw around the territory while she tried to find a good spot to hunt.

Featherpaw purred and trotted along side her mentor taking in everything. "Wow! Skyclan Territory sure is huge!" She meowed flicking her tail, her green eyes taking in everything.

Vixenheart nodded, the same happy smile on her face.
"It most certainly is, but you'll get used to it in time."
Eventually, they ended up stopping by a small hollow that was lined with tall trees and dotted with bushes. This had been the spot where Vixenheart had gone on her first training session, and she was surprised that she was able to remember where it was. She then turned to face her apprentice.
"Before we start hunting real prey, you'll have to learn the crouch."
The ginger and white she-cat crouched down, making sure her belly fur didn't touch the ground. She tucked her hind legs in, and made sure her tail hovered slightly above the ground.
"This is the hunting crouch!" She began, "Go ahead and try it."

Featherpaw nodded. She tried and copied her mentor not getting it the exact same way but pretty good for a new apprentice. "Like this?" She meowed.

Vixenheart rose from her crouch and padded over to Featherpaw.
"That's very good for your first try, Featherpaw, but there's a few things that you need to fix." She said.
She lowered Featherpaw's tail with her paw, "Make sure that your tail hovers just slightly above the ground, but it shouldn't touch the ground at all."
Vixenheart then nudged Featherpaw's back legs in with her nose, "Make sure your back paws are tucked in."
Finally, she used her tail to lower her apprentice down towards the ground, but stopped lowering Featherpaw before she could touch it, "Make sure nothing but your paws touch the ground, not even your belly fur. The prey will hear you coming if you do."

Featherpaw nodded again and did what Vixenheart told her to do. This time getting the crouch right.

Vixenheart nodded, purring.
"Excellent, Featherpaw! You are quite the fast learner."
She then looked around, her ears lifting.
"Now to try some real hunting. Lift your ears and try to listen out for the prey. Try to sniff out the prey as well, but don't get confused with any other scents...and if you smell anything suspicious, tell me." She told her apprentice.

Featherpaw nodded and looked for some prey. She got close enough to pounce with out breaking her crouch and jumped pouncing on the mouse and sinking  her teeth into its neck before it could make a sound.

Vixenheart was impressed. She padded over to her apprentice.
"Wow, great catch! Even I didn't catch a mouse on my first try." She said.
She was eager to continue training Featherpaw and excited for the days ahead. Vixenheart could tell that Featherpaw was capable of almost anything.

Featherpaw purred and dug a hole to bury her prey in and then dropped it in and covered it."What next?" She meowed flicking her tail.

"Tree climbing," She simply said, "I was going to save that for another training session, but I think you can handle it now. SkyClan are known for climbing trees." She said, padding over to a tree nearby. Vixenheart wasn't going to purposely choose an incredibly tall tree for an apprentice on their first training session, but the ginger and white she-cat thought that the tree was tall enough to be a challenge for Featherpaw.
"Trees usually don't have branches until you get a few fox-lengths up, so be sure to grip on to the trunk with your front and hind paws, claws unsheathed, and claw your way up." She said, her tail flicking. She looked up at the tree, trying to estimate how high she should jump, before she rose from the ground and managed to get a grip on the tree trunk. Her hooked claws slid out, sinking into the bark and keeping her steady. She then began to claw her way up, making sure not to wrench any claws out along the way, before she stopped beside a branch.

She inched closer to the branch, lowering herself gently on to it to make sure it was steady, but keeping her grip on the trunk just in case the tree limb snapped. It seemed sturdy enough, so she landed gracefully on the branch. She looked down at Featherpaw, flicking her tail to signal her apprentice to follow.
"Try it!" She called down, a smile on her muzzle.

Hmm.. Featherpaw thought as she padded over to the tree and crouched. She judged how much she would have to jump them jumped and grabbed onto the tree with her claws, almost slipping off the trunk several times. She eventually clawed her way up to a branch just above her mentor.

Vixenheart lifted her gaze and head to look up at her apprentice.
"Very good!" The deputy said, leaping up beside Featherpaw.
She tried to think of what to do next. She thought back to the time when she was still an apprentice and Antdrop was training her to climb trees. Her smile then grew larger at the memory.
"Now let's see if you can catch me!" Vixenheart said, her tone playful as she leaped up to a higher branch, and then began going higher, away from Featherpaw, as quickly as she could.
