Creekkit and Bramblekit's Apprentice and Blackpaw's New Mentor Ceremony

Today was the day! Darkstar hopped up onto the Highrock and called out, "All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather under the Highrock for a clan meeting!" To be truthful, today was bittersweet. Today her son would become an apprentice, but she would also have to assign a new mentor to Blackpaw after Sedgewhisker's untimely death. It was a mystery as to why he had gone out on such a stormy night, but it would be impossible to answer unless Starclan came and told her themselves.

Bramblekit made his way out into the clearing, his eyes dead set on his mother's form. Today he would become an apprentice. It had taken long enough.

Confidentially padding up to the Highrock, he took his spot beneath it. He held his head up high and proud as he waited for Darkstar to speak.

Blackpaw's tail brushed the bramble bushes, light shafting through the treetops as they made their way onto his sable pelt. He bounded forwards, eyes locked on Darkstar, as he mused to himself about what a feisty apprentice Bramblekit would make. He padded upwards, and took a seat beneath the spanning width of the Highrock's shadow, dulling his bright ginger-and-white spots. He then emerged from the shadow, when the light cast it aside, tail curled elegantly around his frame. His eyes seemed to glow as he glanced at the soon-to-be apprentice, Bramblekit, with pride. He milled in his spot for a bit, before settling.

He allowed his eyes to scan the clearing, resting on the dark-furred leader, who sat atop the Highrock. His paws sank into the cool earth, few leaves scattered across the ground, marking the beginning of Leaf-fall. He craned his neck to catch a glimpse of Darkstar's cool, yet bittersweet expression. Blackpaw knew how she felt. Her own kin, the small, brown tabby Bramblekit, was earning his apprentice rank. It dawned on Blackpaw, that he would feel the same way. He shook his head promptly. There was no way he could see himself becoming a father. Yet, he was earning a new mentor after the untimely death of his last. It brought tears, welling in his eyes, to think of it again. He sighed shakily and attempted to forget it.

Now calmly, Blackpaw rested in his spot, consoling words from Darkstar easing his mind. His gaze flickered across the crowd of cats that had not yet padded forth, silently awaiting Creekkit, as well. He could always see a determined spark in that kit's eyes, an unforgettable spark. He shuffled to allow himself more room, rooting himself to the earth with unsheathed claws. His fur lay comfortably flat on his neck, trying to be as tranquil as he could, as his gaze flitted across Bramblekit's sleek tabby form. It had been outlined by the smooth, felicitous sunset. It gave Blackpaw a sense of joy, to see a kit on his important day, instead of dwelling upon the death of his previous mentor.

Scorchfrost's heart broke for Blackpaw. He wished Sedgewhisker were still here to see how far the Clans had come since the Gathering.

Blackpaw saw the distraught look in Scorchfrost's eyes. He padded up to his grandfather, nuzzling him. "It'll be okay... But I'll never forget him." He mewed softly. His speckled ebony fur brushed up against Scorchfrost's own, sooty, long-furred pelt. His gaze seemed so much like Scorchfrost's - to any other cat, the resemblance would be obvious. Not in appearance, but with the pang of sadness that had affected them both so much.

Blackpaw could faintly see the crowd of cats, flocking towards the Highrock. The strength held in Scorchfrost's figure seemed impossible, yet his grandfather was still crippled by his injury. Blackpaw watched as colors flew from the trees, in stunning images. Leaves lay on the ground, green whisked with swirling hues of yellow, orange and red. Thoughts lingered in Blackpaw's mind of the new season, and in Leafbare, he wondered where he would be.

ic- "Bramblekit. You have reached the age of six moons and it is time that you became apprenticed. From this day forward until you receive your warrior name, you shall be know as Bramblepaw. Your mentor will be Mistywater. I know she will train you well." She turned her head to face Blackpaw, a feeling of sympathy washing over her. Given, she was alreay deputy when it happened, but the death of Oliveheart still hit her hard. "Blackpaw, due to the death of Sedgewhisker, a new mentor must appointed. Your mentor will be Scorchfrost." She nodded to the warrior. Hopefully they could both work through this tough time, together. She hopped down to join in the chanting, grinning at her son.

Mistywater smiled and touched her nose to Bramblepaw, she always had fun while training her apprentices, even if they they needed to be shaped or not.

Blackpaw touched his nose to his grandfather's own. He wasn't aware of their relationship. "I am honoured to have you as my mentor," he whispered, head bowed in courtesy.

Scorchfrost smiled as he touched noses with Blackpaw. "If you're anything like Mistywater, you won't be much trouble."

"I wouldn't count on it," Blackpaw chuckled quietly, though his glowing blue eyes seemed sorrowful still. He lightened up a bit with the thought of training with Scorchfrost.
