Poppysong nervously paced back and forth in front of the camp exit. She had never trained an apprentice before, and although she trusted Crowstar's training, she wondered if she could be just as excellent. In theory, training a young cat and turning them into a warrior seemed like an amazing feat, but the fluffy she-cat doubted herself in every way.

Holding her breath at the sound of pawsteps, she turned her head and gave a big, disingenuous smile to the approaching cat.

Birchpaw stumbled out of the apprentice den, a little worse for wear after a rough night of sleep. He'd been training with his Dark Forest mentor, Sunwhisker, in his dreams, learning moves far too advanced for a young apprentice like him. He didn't even know how to hunt yet, and the tom was batting him with the strength of a lion. The black and white tom was looking forward to learning some actual life skills with his proper mentor, Poppysong. Power and strength was all fine and dandy, but it was all for nothing if he couldn't catch a mouse. "Poppysong? Am I late?"

The warrior jumped a little at his almost ragged appearance. His fur didn't seem to want to stay flat and his eyes held a tired gaze. She let out a small, awkward laugh and shook her head. "No, no, no. Don't worry, I had only just begun to wait," Poppysong reassured the tom. He was her apprentice, and she had no reason to doubt his loyalty and generosity, but something about his parentage worried her.

Sedgeclaw was not know for his kindness. The tom was easily angered, and quick to lash out. The she-cat just prayed to StarClan that Birchpaw would not follow in his pawsteps.

"Are you ready to go?" she mewed, gesturing to the exit. "We'll be hunting today, if that's alright with you."

When he heard that he wasn't late, the tom relaxed, taking the time to fluff his fur up and try to resettle the spiky mess that was his pelt. If he wasn't late, they could wait a hare's breath so he didn't look like a pinecone. Wordless muttering noises of agreement, he proceeded to clean himself up at his leisure. Only when he didn't looked like rat's nest, did he get up to head off onto the patrol. "I'm ready now. We're going hunting, right? Shouldn't be that hard."

Once he flatten his fur down, Poppysong allowed herself to breath a little. He looked a lot less intimidating this way, and as she listened harder to his voice, she couldn't find any traces of hostility in it. Letting out a small sigh of relief, she gave him a real smile, albeit it being small.

"You say that as though you've been hunting before," she teased slightly, shrugging her shoulders and slinking out of camp and into the territory.
