The Last Light [[Closed]]

Maybe if he had gotten there earlier, she would've lived. Or maybe if he had yelled for Dreamleaf or Stonepaw quicker, she would've lived. But maybe if he hadn't of mated with her in the first place, Frozenflame's new mate would've lived. But no, Wispflower died anyway. Her body had already been carried out of camp and buried with the other dead cats, and all that remained was one tom kit. He looked just like his mother; brown with patches of black and white with beady green eyes. He even smelled like her, too, and his fur colors reminded Frozenflame of a plover, thus he named him Ploverkit. The tom kit had already been fed milk by another queen, and now Frozenflame lay curled around him with teary eyes. Why did everyone in Frozenflame's life either die or leave him? Why did everyone seem to hate him so much? "Don't worry, Ploverkit, I won't let you slip away. Not you. Not another one of those who I love. Not like Cloverpool or Hawkstrike or Wispflower. Not like Hollyberry or Blazingheart or my children who have died or I forgot about. You and I will be a family. You are all I need to stay sane."

Though Ploverkit could not quite understand what his father was saying, the small tom snuggled closer into the warmth, wanting to be as close as possible to his father, his only bit of warmth. He loved his father very, very much and never wanted to leave, and he clung to his fathers paw like a burr. He did not know where his mother was, but he didn't care very much. He was so sleepy- he just wanted to sleep forever. But he was concerned for his father, because he didn't seem right- water was in his eyes, and he didn't think it should be there. So, he riggled a bit, mewling, trying to get him to feel better.

Frozenflame smiled down at the mewing kit and pawed away the tears from his eyes. Ploverkit's attempt to make his father feel better actually helped somewhat. Ploverkit was really the only cat Frozenflame could talk to, since the kit didn't really understand what he was talking about and wouldn't tell anybody. With this in mind, Frozenflame kept talking. "Ploverkit, I love you so much. I want to be honest with you; I still love Cloverpool. I love her a lot, but she's moved on. I tried to move on, with your mother, but that only ended up with death. Whenever I try to be happy, everything bad that could possibly happen happens. Ploverkit, I basically killed your mother. But if she didn't die, then you would've died, and I never want you to die. Don't die, please don't ever die."

Ploverkit's mewls eased, stopping so that his father could speak, though he still didn't understand. He clutched his fathers paw closer, mind easing a bit as he finally metled into that warm, sleepy feeling... But not quite. He had to make sure his father was okay. So he wiggled a bit more, nudging his fathers paw with his face.

Frozenflame chuckled, his laugh like a deep roar of thunder. "I think I'll like you, Ploverkit. You're going to make a fine warrior."

Ploverkit soon fell asleep, sure that his father was now okay. His mismatched stuck out in all sorts of places, and he snored a teensy bit.
