Bitter Rejection

Goosestorm practically skipped over to Lionsong. He was smirking knowingly, preparing to ask her that special question. He was absolutely terrified and wanted to have a stroke right there, but he knew he was ready. I can do this... 


"Lionsong, w-would you come out with me? I... I n-need to ask you something."

Lionsong tilted her head and stood. "I suppose."

Goosestorm felt slightly kittish, taking her out here, but he didn't want to wait a second longer. He sat down and looked at the she-cat once they were far enough away from camp. "I... Well, I-I wanted to ask you something, Lionsong."

Lionsong strode in her large strides, then looked at Goosestorm curiously, as if she had no idea what she was about to be asked.

"I... I know I'm n-not very confident, but... I do love you. Even wh-when we were kits, you were m-m... my world." Goosestorm sighed. "I guess I just want to ask... Would you be my mate?"

Lionsong stiffeled back a laugh at first, but soon she was cackling with a loud amusement. "Oh Lionsong!" She chocked out. "Do you really think I'll ever love you?"

Goosestorm's ears folded in confusion. "W-what?" He felt as though hot fire was burning his heart and his lungs. He could have sworn... "But... when we were ap-prentices... A-and you told me... Was that just some big joke to y-you?" He felt his entire world and everything in it crash down. He thought of Darkfrost, with his bravery and his strength... It made sense now. He had been used.
