Goosepaw and Darkpaw's Hunting Patrol

Fishstar tottered out of her den, still quite tired from the day before's shenanigans, and yawned deeply. She had three apprentices now, but had already taken Poolpaw on a patrol two sunrises ago, so it was time to focus on the two newer additions to her little team. The silver she-cat padded over to the apprentice den and called a little groggily, "Darkpaw! Goosepaw!"

Goosepaw yawned and stretched his legs, his pluming tail swishing in the soil. He opened his eyes and crept out of the den, nudging Darkpaw as he went out. He stood semi-alert in front of his new mentor. "Yes, F-fishstar?" he hummed, running a paw over his wayward fur.

Darkpaw had been awake to start with. He never slept. How could he, with all of these troubling thoughts swimming in his mind? His parents abandoned him and his sister, so he figured they didn't love them. Why else would the two have been abandoned? Why was Riverclan so nice to take them in? Darkpaw knew that him and Honeykit didn't deserve to be taken in by Riverclan; they were just weak, worthless kits who nobody wanted. Now, training as the leader's apprentice, Darkpaw was going to give every ounce of energy he had to pay back Riverclan for being so nice to them. He made it a promise to himself to do so. "Hello, Fishstar," Darkpaw purred respectfully with a dip of his head. The thin but strong, white and black tom padded out of the den and stretched in the fresh air. "Will we be training today, Fishstar?" He asked, hoping that he didn't act disrespectful in front of the leader. He never acted disrespectful, so this wouldn't be a problem.

"I'm going to take you both hunting today," Fishstar explained, rolling one of her shoulders until she heard a pleasant crack. She stood, and turned to face the camp's exit. "We're just going to go along the river and catch some frogs and fish. Come along." She began padding away, tail-tip twitching to signal the younger cats to follow.
