Dovepaw's Assessment

Rowancloud paced with annoyance. His apprentice was due for an assessment, and he was hoping she wasn't sleeping in. He'd made sure to tell her before she had went to her nest to wake up early. He hadn't told her the reason for it, however. Bushy tail lashing, he paced around the entrance waiting for Dovepaw. She'd better not be late.

Rowancloud nodded, turning away from her. Not as late as he thought she'd be. "I'm going to be assessing you today. Catch three pieces of prey before sundown, and I will see how you do. How you do will determine whether you're ready to become a warrior or not. Don't disappoint me." He shook his long fur and twitched his whiskers. "Got it? You can start whenever you're ready."

Rowancloud nodded as she left the camp. He silently slipped into the brush to watch her, tail disappearing behind him. After several moments had passed, he tensed as a rabbit came into view. Would she catch it? His claws flexed as his eyes widened with anticipation. Ah! So close! he thought. She has until sundown. She has plenty of time.

ic: Rowancloud nodded in approval, almost dozing off at the wait. He was glad his apprentice was utilizing the skills he'd taught her. Two left. Could his apprentice manage?

Rowancloud eyed the sun, which was high in the sky. She definitely would finish before sundown at this rate. Though, prey wasn't running as much lately. She only needed one more. The tom grinned at her progress, panting lightly at watching her run around. It tired him out as well. The poor apprentice seemed as if she were about to collapse! Dovepaw was almost done..

Rowancloud tensed, watching her stalk unseen prey. At least the apprentice was using her ears and nose instead of her eyes. The tom's heart dropped as she missed and it scurried away. It was a good effort, but sundown was approaching soon.
