Littlekit Explores

"Sad is... putting it lightly," the leader said even though his response was pretty delayed. It was kind of a lie, too. He wasn't exactly sad, but his problems were much heavier than the word 'sad' entailed. Rather, he felt numb. He couldn't feel anything. There was no happiness, no sadness or even anger at this point. This was the feeling he once had hoped to achieve long ago after suffering through the loss of his mother, his sisters, kits and later, his mate. He wanted to reach the point that he could think logically and strategically without his emotions getting in the way. Now, it felt very wrong, like he was missing a huge part of himself that he couldn't get back. 

"Eat up, Littlekit," he said after she tried the frog. "You'll need it to grow strong."

She nodded, happy with the answer. "The squishy thing tastes. . ." She thought for a moment, not knowing the proper word to describe it.

Mudfoot gave a purr as she tasted the frog. "Weird?" He ended the kit's sentence. "I never really liked frog either until I ate it more. Then you'll get used to it." With a few bites he gulped down the remaining frog. Licking his lips, he turned to Thrushstar. All the tom could feel in that moment was sympathy and a bit of fear for what to come. "I'm sorry, that you have to deal with all this nonsense." He meowed softly. He knew sometimes leaders didn't want pity, but his caring nature got the best of him.

She nodded. "Weird."

Hearing him speak to Thrushstar again, she looked at the tom. "NPCbark ((mom)) says that whenever someone's sad, StarClan will make them happy again. They just have to look!" Of course, she didn't quite understand the situation, but she was still trying to make the tom feel better.

Thrushstar simply grunted at Mudfoot's words. He appreciated the sympathy but he didn't really want it. When Littlekit spoke up about Starclan, however, the leader's eyes narrowed for a moment with a quick reaction if disgust before it changed to a soft look of hope. Sure the expression might have been fake, but he didn't want to ruin this kit's outlook on the world. Not yet. The Shadowclan leader had lost faith in Starclan a long time ago. He wouldn't deny they existed, but they certainly haven't helped. "Thank you, Littlekit. I'll remember to do that." his words were calm but they were hiding a sharpness in his voice.

She seemed thrilled about then, smiling at him. Littlekit seemed to almost bounce a bit, but quickly sat down and rubbed her face with her paws before standing again.

Mudfoot smiled and relaxed a bit as Thrushstar talked to the kit. He was glad the leader didn't snap but knew Thrushstar's kind words could only go so far. The tom could tell he wasn't in a very talkative mood and poked Littlekit on the shoulder with his tail. "Why don't you show me how strong you are!" He meowed as he got up, bounding a short distance from Thrushstar. He gave a playful hiss and crouched down in a playful stance. At least now she won't be bothering him. He loved playing with kits and their spunk, and would have no problem keeping Littlekit occupied.

Her eyes widened and she bounced over to him, trying to bat at his nose with her little paw. "I'll be the strongest!" she laughed.
