Halfpaw's Warrior Ceremony

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the willow branch for a Clan meeting!" Fishstar shouted above the howling of the wind.

Halfpaw fairly ran out. Was it her time at last?

OOC: It's okay, me too. Sorry for shortness.

IC:

"Halfpaw, please step forward," said the leader.

OOC: It's fine, I was gone too. And, Halfmoon please! :3

IC: Halfpaw stepped up, heart suddenly pounding. Would her name be a reminder of her deformity? You can name me anything you want- Halfheart, Halffoot, Halfleaf- anything but Halfface. Please, Fishstar. My mother loved you.

The she-cat cleared her throat. "I, Fishstar, leader of RiverClan, call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentice. She has trained hard to learn the ways of your noble code, and I commend her to you as a warrior in turn. Halfpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code, and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

Halfpaw gulped nervously. She should feel a clarity of purpose, right? Her life just felt muddled. But this was it. What her brothers did. Are you watching, Fallenblaze? What her mother, what her grandmother did. Do you see me now, Tansyfoot, Icetail? What she needed to do. Don't mess this up, Halfpaw. "I do," she vowed solemnly, feeling a rush of anxiety rather than excitement. She looked up at the leader, her face showing nothing, but silently pleading. Please, Fishstar, not Halfface.

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name," the leader continued. "Halfpaw, from this day forth, you shall be known as Halfmoon. RiverClan honours your determination and loyalty."

Halfpaw- no, now she was Halfmoon!- dipped her head in respect and hidden relief to her leader Fishstar. Thank goodness, I finally made it! And... that's a beautiful name. "Thank you, Fishstar," she murmured so that only the leader could hear. If only my mother could see me now.
