Duskkit's Apprentice Ceremony

The sky was turning purple and pink as Wisteriasky headed out with her soon to be apprentice at her side. She was filled with resentment as she trudged along, not wanting to fill her den with another cat. Wisteriasky, however, was planning to ask the SkyClan cats to move out now that she had Duskkit to train. As the days went on, it was getting more and more cluttered and she spent her day cleaning up after everyone around camp; the mass of cats triggering her need for neatness. But, Wisteriasky had to admit, she kind of did like Duskkit. Even though she wished she had longer as a medicine cat alone, she could respect the need to keep the strain of medicine cats going. She felt smart and wise, knowing everything there is to know. But more and more she felt too stuffy and too uneasy with all these cats. Shaking her head, she padded on.

Duskkit hadn't a care in the world whether the SkyClan cats were there or not. As far as he was concerned, they had lived there the whole time, and he couldn't wait to begin his training with Wisteriasky, and Acornheather, and Oceanpaw! The young tom padded quickly after the older she-cat gazing all around: over the reeds, on the horizon, and up at the sky. "I didn't know the world was so big," he mused, pausing to listen to the sounds of the wind rustling the grass and the soft trickles of the river. "How far is it to Highstones?"

Wisteriasky contemplated for a few seconds. "Only a little farther." She stopped to peer through a break in the treetops. You could hardly see the tops of the mountains where they were heading. "Yes, yes. Not too far." she said with a nod and continuing on. It was awkward, because Wisteriasky had never really needed to connect to any other cat and she didn't really do it on her own. She opened and closed her mouth a few times before finally deciding on a question after they made it across the Thunderpath. "Who are your parents again?" She finally asked as they faced the tumbling of rocks leading up to the cave. They had a few minutes before they needed to start climbing.

Duskkit had been walking with his neck craned back for so long, it was a wonder it wasn't starting to pain him then, or that he fell flat on his face chasing after his soon-to-be mentor. He just couldn't stop watching StarClan above them. There were so many warriors up there! And the further the sun set, the more appeared. It was like their territory stretched on forever!

He hadn't even noticed when she'd first called up to him. "My parents...?" He muttered. It hadn't really hit him until a few moments later. Oh, his pareentttsss. "Fishstar and Otterfur," The young tom meowed proudly, catching up to the she-cat again.

Wisteriasky nodded, impressed. "Yes, that's quite right. I remember now. You have the blood of RiverClan leadership, Duskkit." she praised, even though the tom himself had nothing to do with it. "I am sure Fishstar is excited to work with her son as medicine cat." By now, the moon was right and so she stood. "Come, young one. Follow my tail." Wisteriasky draped her long tail across the toms characters and started into the cave.

The tom purred lightly, no matter how it may have seemed, he felt extremely proud of his heritage. Duskkit stayed quiet for a bit afterwords, then shot his mentor a curious look. "Who are your parents?" He asked. However, it didn't seem much like they had much time to talk before they were staring into the darkness of the mothermouth. For a few moments, he stared. It left a deep pit into his stomach for reasons he didn't quite understand. It looked quite frightening, but he wasn't scared. Instead he felt... overwhelmed.

When he'd snapped back into reality, Wisteriasky had already disappeared inside. In a hurry, he shot off after her.

Wisteriasky decided to answer the tom after. To build comradery and such. She, too, was the daughter of a RiverClan leader. However, she was already in the cave when he asked. Soon, they were before the moonstone. When it lit up with it's dazzling light, she motioned Duskkit over. "Duskkit, you are about to enter the world of the medicine cat. We have no boundaries within the clan, and by taking this oath you swear to uphold your duties no matter what clan the cat comes from. You must never take a mate, as you can not treat one cat over another. You are to accept omens from StarClan, and share them with the clan or clan leader no matter what they contain. Do you accept this oath?" she said softly.

Duskkit felt chills run up and down his spine, colder than the entire cave around him. He took in a deep breath and let it out slowly, making sure that his words would be firm. He had to impress Wisteriasky and his ancestors. "I do," he said.

With a nod, Wisteriasky draped her tail over his shoulder. "From now on until you receive your medicine cat name, your name is Duskpaw. RiverClan and StarClan accept their new apprentice." With a smile, she stepped back and motioned to the glowing stone. "Come, now. Dream with me for the first time." she made her way closer to the stone, laying down and making herself comfortable. "Just lay down like this, close your eyes, and press your nose to the stone. You will wake up in StarClan." after she finished her instructions, she did as she told and entered the world of StarClan.

Duskpaw. The newly named tom beamed with excitement. Although there was no one around to cheer his name, he could feel pride warming his heart. He stared up at Wisteriasky for a moment longer before nodding and laying beside the glimmering stone. As he pressed his nose to the rock, a chill was sent down his spine and sleep washed over him soon after.
