The dream in Leaf bare

Dreamkit poked her head out of the nursery and sneezed as a piece of cotton flew onto her nose. She scrunched her face up from the cold but soon staggered out.

Bluepaw turned her head over to the tiny kit coming out of the nursery and smiled.

Petalpaw backed out of the den and realized the freshkill pile only had two or three measly mice piled up. Her tail drooped. She had been looking forward to having a nice lunch meal. Well, I guess I'll have to go hunting before I can eat, she thought to herself, sighing. It's incredible how stocked-full it was last night for our evening meal, and now it's very small and pathetic. Petalpaw's belly growled hungrily, and a sharp pain clawed briefly at her insides. She couldn't stand being hungry until another patrol came back.

She turned around to see Bluepaw in the middle of camp. She looks bored, Petalpaw commented to herself. But I can't blame her - everyone who's not out on patrol is sleeping. She snorted, and then trotted over to her denmate.

"Hey, Bluepaw!" she purred in welcome, touching her friend's shoulder with her tail tip. "The freshkill pile looks kinda pathetic. Wanna go for a quick hunt with me? My belly is yowling." Petalpaw smiled.

Bluepaw looked up.
"I dunno," she mewed and took another glance at Dreamkit.
"Isn't she precious?" she mewed dreamily.

Dreamkit's calico pelt glowed in the dim gray light. She lumbered over to Petalpaw and Bluepaw and sniffed.
"Hi," she mewed.

Petalpaw cocked her head. "Um... yeah... she's divine..." she muttered confusedly to Bluepaw. "But do you want to come with me? The fresh-kill pile is so low." She opened her mouth to add something else, but instead she bent down to face Dreamkit at eye-level.

"Hello, kit!" she purred. "I'm Petalpaw. What's your name?"

Bluepaw nodded at Petalpaw.
"Sure," she mewed. Then she saw Dreamkit.
"Hello," she mewed.

Dreamkit looked at the older cats with warm eyes.
"I'm D-Dreamkit," she mewed softly.

Petalpaw smiled. "Hello, Dreamkit! This is Bluepaw." She flicked her tail at her denmate.

Silverpaw was lazing in the rare, warm sun of leaf bare. Sunbathing was one of her Mother's favorite activities back at her old home. The feeling of the sun cannot be recreated, She thought. All at once she heard some mews by the nursery. "Oh, that nursery... Full of those tiny adorable kits." Silverpaw said to herself as she began walking over there. Walking by the prey pile, she noticed it was low. Better go hunting later.

Silverpaw walked around the corner, only to find two fellow apprentices and a small, cute kit. "What's all the noise interrupting my sunbathing?" She said good naturedly, smiling at the kit. "What could be your name?" She said to her, and looked at the apprentices. She gestured over to the fresh-kill pile, implying that more prey must be added.

Bluepaw nodded at Silverpaw in return.

"I'm Dreamkit," she mewed.

Petalpaw rolled her eyes. It looked like no one was going to go hunting with her now. "Hello, Silverpaw!" she purred, trying to keep her enthusiasm. "Bluepaw and I were just discussing the thought of going for a hunt to build up the fresh-kill pile when this adorable kit came over!" She smiled down at Dreamkit.

"Tell you what, little kit," Petalpaw said to the kit, smiling gently. "How about this: Look at the fresh-kill pile, it's empty except for a rotted family of starlings! We apprentices are hungry, but we cannot eat if there is no food on the pile enough to feed the warriors, queens, elders, leader, and deputy, so we have to go hunting and catch enough prey for there to be enough. We love playing with kits, but if Silverpaw and Bluepaw agree to come hunting with me, we can promise to play with you after the hunt." Or I'll just go hunting alone, she thought to herself bitterly. I think that's what will end up happening, because Bluepaw seems to be in a trance and I bet Silverpaw will want to keep her company...

"So, Bluepaw, Silverpaw, wanna come with me? If not I can just go alone..."

ooc; if anyone wants to go with her, I can make a new topic for the hunt, but it's fine if no one wants to. I have it worked out if no one wants to go with her.

Dreamkit nodded with wide eyes.
"Okay," she mewed and scampered back to the nursery.

Petalpaw's tail drooped. "I'm sorry, Dreamkit! I promise we'll play with you later."

Dreamkit poked her head out and smiled.
"I understand you have duties, Silverpaw," Dreamkit squeaked." so go do them!"

Petalpaw smiled, and turned to trot to the camp entrance. "Come on, Silverpaw, Bluepaw!" she called over her shoulder.
