Here they come! (Birth Topic for AshwingXIcestorm's kits)

Ashwing was walking out of the nursery. She had been feeling sick all morning, but really wanted a drink of water. The light gray she-cat had barely taken a few steps before she collapsed to the ground. Something wasn't right. Suddenly, her body went rigid as she was racked by spasms of unnatural pain. "Icestorm! Gorsefeather!" she yowled. "They're coming! The kits are coming!"

Icestorm was eating a stale rabbit when he heard his mates cry. What? Now! He thought to himself, getting excited. He dropped the rabbit and dashed over to Gorsefeather's den. "Gorsefeather! The kits are coming!" he meowed into the medicine cat den.

Emberpaw woke up in the medicine cat's den when Gorsefeather was called. I'll come too, he thought as he grabbed a pile of sticks, some borage, a bit of chervil, and a paw full of juniper berries. The ginger tom rushed over to the nursery and sat the herbs down on the mossy ground. He pushed a juniper berry and a stick towards the queen. "Eat the berry, then bite down on the stick." The blue colored berry would help calm Ashwing down and the stick would help get out the pain. He chewed up the chervil and gave her the extracted juice...it helped with kitting. The borage was for after the kits were out to help her produce better milk.

If Gorsefeather didn't come soon, Emberpaw would have to get the kits out himself, and he had never done that before.

"Emberpaw were is Gorsefeather?" Icestorm said impatiently as he followed the apprentoce to Ashwing. He had nothing agaisnt the apprentice, but wanted the kits and Ashwing to be safe and he knew that Emberpaw had never done a kitting before so he was a little worried.

"Uh...I think he is coming." Emberpaw took a big gulp and stared at the she-cat worridly. He had been given proper training on how to do a kitting, but the tangle-furred messy ginger apprentice had never actually done one. His grey eyes flickered around the room as he waited unpatiently.

"Emberpaw, come here please." Icestorm said walking a few paces away from Ashwing.

"Here." Gorsefeather spoke, following after his apprentice. The calico brought over with him a few leaves of lamb's ear for stamina. Something every queen needed when giving birth in his opinion, though he did have an interesting discussion with another medicine cat whether it actually helped so close to the birth.

"Did you give her Chervil?" He asked, dropping the leaves he carried near her. "Eat these as well. They'll help give you strength."

Icestorm saw Gorsefeather come, but still wanted to have a chat with Emberpaw...

"Yes, I did," purred Emberpaw to his mentor, relieved that he had came. The ginger tom padded over to Icestorm at his request. "Yes, Icestorm?" He asked

"Listen. I know that Gorsefeather may be here now, but when he is not here...and this goes for every clan member who needs your help. When he is not here, I need to have confidence you know what you are doing." He gave a soft smile to the medicine cat apprentice.

Ashwing accepted the herbs with a grimace. Her body spasmed again. Then, with a great heave, a small, wet bundle slipped out. It was all the she-cat could do not to let out a yowl of pain. Instead, she moaned. "Is is a she-cat or a tom?" she asked Gorsefeather in-between pushes.

After he talked with Emberpaw, Icestorm ran back to the den. "Can I come in?" he asked with excitment.

"A tom, a healthy one too." Gorsefeather replied between licking the kit clean to stimulate it's breathing. The dark grey kit looked well formed and healthy, but he kept it with him for now, to make sure the queen didn't accidentally squash it.

The little Tom kit squirmed around. He mewed, and gently nipped Gorsefeather's paw.

Ashwing groaned in pain. As she let out a yowl, another spasm racked her body. With a final push and a gasp of breath, the last kit appeared. He was a lighter gray than the first, with touches of white. "Is that all?" she panted. "What should we name them, Icestorm?"
