The pain before the blessing

It had been a little while since Softsong earned her place in Thunderclan in the fight against Riverclan even if they lost. She remembered a few days after she had told Duskfall she was expecting his kits and she had been in the nursery for a while. She was relaxing in the nursery in silence when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach and she tried to stay calm and upon another sharp pain she called out for her mate"Duskfall!"She called pain lacing her voice.

"I'm here!" Duskfall raced over from placing the mice he'd caught from a hunting patrol, he'd known his mate was expecting kits, but he didn't expect them to be so soon. He quickly entered the nursery to support his mate through the kitting. "Do you need anything?"


OOC: maybe they can have a still born kit or two so it's not only a one kit litter?

Softsong looked at her mate as he caame in quickly she felt another flash of pain and mewed"c..can you get me a stick to bit on"She mewed in pain she felt another flash of pain before it relieved some as a kit was born but as she tried to clean it it made no sound not a single movement came from the kit and she closed her eyes some before she felt another sting of pain from her belly and she looked at him.

Duskfall nodded, racing out to get a stick for her to bite on through the pain. He was gone for only an instant, missing the birth of the first kit, a still born. He gave his mate the stick before licking the kit, hoping futilely that it would breathe. He purred at it, nudged it, but it remained still.

Grief threatened to overwhelm him, but he stayed strong for Softsong. Instead encouraging her.

"You'll be fine, Softsong. Any kit of ours will be beautiful and loved. Fight through the pain for us."

Greif showed in her ice blue eyes but she nodded biting down on the stick as she felt yet another flash of pain soon she again relaxed after yet another kit was born she looked to the kit before she dropped the stick from her mouth and started to lean forward to lick the kit but stopped hesitant that maybe it was another still born so she thought maybe her mate could lick the kit.

Instinctively Duskfall knew what his mate wanted from him, he picked up the tiny kit, and placed her close to him for warmth as he licked. He licked a little vigorously, worried that it may be another stillborn but when he heard the soft mewl of protest, his worries were banished. He picked up the small she-kit and placed her on her mother's belly.

"This one lives."

The she kit let out a soft mewl of protest and had felt herself picked up and put near the warmth she wanted. Soon the small dark she kit started to suckle quietly.

Softsong seemed to relax when she heard the small kit lived she let out a small purr.she smiled at the she kit before looking to her mate, Duskfall."would you like to suggest a name for the she kit? And i..want to name t..the still born"She mewed quietly.

"Of course." Duskfall took a moment to take in the two kits, focusing especially on the one he planned to name. She was a dark brown, almost black, she-kit that resembled his sister Coalfur who was no longer with them. Thus he decided on what to call her.

"I would like to name her Coalkit, after my sister. And hopefully, the name will serve her better than it did her. If you approve of course."

Softsong eyes softened hearing the name he wanted to name the she kit"of course that is perfect name "She mewed. She looked to the stillborn that was a light gray and she thought of a name quietly she mewed"and i want to name that one Willowkit"She mewed quietly looking to Duskfall.
