The Meeting

Rainstreak sat at a clump of reeds, staring out at the horizon. The moon was shining brightly in the black sky, and warriors of StarClan twinkled from their perch. The light from the moon caused anything in its path to shine a soft silver. She blinked her blue eyes and smiled slightly as the wind picked up. She could smell a certain someone approaching her. The cat tasted the wind again before she spoke. She was right. "Hello, Stormclaw. What brings you here at this time of night?" she asked, mildly teasing the tom. She'd asked him to meet her at the biggest clump of reeds. He had come.

Stormclaw stared at her with his deep yellow eyes. "You called me. I came." he purred slightly. This dang she-cat. His mind flicked to his past mate, he recoiled. He had kits with her, and he shook his head. He couldn't think about that now. She was gone, the kits grown and having mates of their own. He could move on.

She stood up and grinned, stretching out her long legs one at a time. Rainstreak turned to her, licking a paw and drawing it slowly over her ear. "Something's wrong, I can tell. What's bothering you?" she asked, tilting her head and squinting her blue eyes.

He shook him head at her. "No its fine. Past, lets talk about now" he huffed, watching her as she seemed to be too slowly grooming herself.

Rainstreak nodded and stopped mid-lick. She wiped her paw over her ear quickly, then curled her tail neatly over her paws. "So, how about that offer?" she drawled softly, smiling.

"Im going to say yes" was his slightly simple answer. He didn't want to dwell too much, he wanted to move on. He didn't have much left in his life, why not make the most and have another love?

Rainstreak purred and stepped forward, closer to her mate. She tilted her head and lifted a paw, as if to say 'Can I come closer?'.

Stormclaw glanced at her warily, before giving a small nod.

She understood, and stepped forward. Without hesitation, she settled in next to him, staring out at the sky and racking her brain for a reasonable conversation starter.

He went stiff, slowly relaxing next to her. He looked at her, then the reeds, and lightly purred. He had to stay away from the past.

Rainstreak closed her eyes, purring. "This is all I ever wanted. Shallowlake and Shimmermist are gone, and my siblings and I are not...well, we're not that close anymore." she mewed quietly, opening her blue eyes and gazing into his yellow eyes.

"I've never had siblings, and I have never really been the close to a lot of cats." he sighed.

"But you have me," Rainstreak batted her eyelashes playfully, and leaned her head against his shoulder.

"Yeah, I guess so" he gave a slight smile and stared down into the reeds.

Rainstreak sat there for a while, not doing anything. After a bit, she stood up and stretched her legs, wincing as the soft light of dawn shone in her eyes. Her mouth stretched in a gaping yawn. "So. should we go back home, or stay here?" she asked, not sure if she wanted to leave or not.
