Sneaking In

Lightningpaw crept through the trees, making sure that no twig cracked under his paws. The shadows disguised his gray and black pelt, which he was grateful for. He trotted the few fox-lengths into the RiverClan camp and slid back into the shadows. The tom found a medium-sized den and slunk into it. Spotting a fluffy gray and white ball of fur, he quietly tiptoed to her nest. "Psst! Cloudkit! It's Lightningpaw!" he hissed softly, gently prodding her with a paw.

First, the scent hit her. Then his paw. "Lightningkit!" Cloudkit squeaked in excitement. "Wait, did you just call yourself Lightningpaw?" She turned around and pressed her nose against his cheek briefly.

Lightningpaw nodded, and laughed quietly. "Shh! But anyway, it's so good to see you!" he purred softly, returning his sister's gesture by gently touching his nose to hers.

Cloudkit replied in a purr and smiled. "I'm not an apprentice yet, but I should be. Who's your mentor?" She asked her sibling from another Clan as she slunk into the shadows and sat down next to Lightningpaw.

"That's cool! I want my mentor to be Ashcloud, being that he was friends with our father." Cloudkit's words lacked enthusiasm towards the end of her speech, bringing up the topic of her father. The kit shook her head quickly and looked back up at her brother. "Anyway, do you want to try some fish?" She asked, trying to change the topic.

Lightningpaw made a face, then relaxed. "Okay. Anything for my 'little sister'." he meowed happily. The tom suddenly yawned. He didn't get much sleep, because since he became an apprentice, he'd been having nightmares about his mother and father.

Stream kit sighed. She heard howls saying, "rouge attack!" She sprang to her paws and ran, hiding in bushes, too late for anyone to stop her.

With confusion on her small face Cloudkit shrugged at Streamkit, who suddenly departed into the bushes. The kit then turned back to her brother and nudged him. "Hey! Just because you're an apprentice doesn't mean you're older than me!" She growled playfully and bated his ear before padding over to the fresh kill pile to retrieve a small fish and bring it back to her brother Lightningpaw.
