A Dead End

Dapplepaw was sitting next to the river in the shade. She thought she'd cool off, so the apprentice padded into the river. Dapplepaw lost her footing and the current swept her away. She couldn't come up for air. Dapplepaw was dead.

Yelloweyes heard the frantic splashing."Dapplepaw!"He yowled.The grey tom leaped over the only spot safe in the river and was dragged by the strong current.Yelloyeyes was as dead as Depplepaw.

Stream paw watched in horror as the cats were swept away. She bent down, and picked up Yelloweyes body. She put the warrior on the ground, placing a flower next to him. Dapple paw was pulled away before she could get her. "So sad," she said through a sigh.
