Silverpaw's Patrol

Sandwhisker felt more tied to camp than he had ever before. Now that he was a warrior, he could go and do wherever or whatever he wanted- so long as he brought back prey to feed the Clan, nobody questioned him. With a sigh, he looked into the apprentices' den and called softly for his apprentice, unsure if his gentle and typically unused voice would wake her. He sat just outside the entrance, waiting, hoping it woke her. A flicker of resentment sparked inside him, but Sandwhisker quickly pushed it away. Silverpaw couldn't help it if she was given to him as an apprentice, so why should he blame her? Maybe I should tell Reedstar that I'm not fit to be a mentor... He vigorously shook his head to banish the thought from his mind. As if that statement would help my case! What kind of warrior can't even find the time to train an apprentice? He mentally berated himself; he wasn't even sure he would have been able to stand in front of his leader and mentor and speak those words. He glanced back at the apprentices' den, hoping he wouldn't have to go back in.

Silverpaw rolled over in her nest her ear flicked as she heard a soft voice call her name. She got up slowly shaking her fur out a little.she then padded out of the apprentices den and looked at her mentor quietly.

"Uh... good morning, Silverpaw." He stood up when he saw her leave the den, relieved. "Today we're going to learn the borders." He flicked his tail to signal her to follow and padded out of camp, heading for the Gorge. When they came to the large gap, he stopped several tail-lengths away. "I don't want you going too close to that. That's called the Gorge, the large..." He searched for the right word. "...cut through the earth that separates WindClan and RiverClan. If you fall in, you'll either hit the cliff face or drown in the water below, so that's why you need to keep your distance."
