A kit's dream

Swiftkit fell to sleep in a patch of sunlight. She woke in a clearing filled with light and when she looked around she had a feeling that many cats had once trained there in the now forgotten clearing.

Embershade slept soundly, hoping the next day she could get on with warrior duties again. She woke up in a patch of grass in a clearing with lots of light. She squinted through the light, and saw a kit form. "Hi, Swiftkit!" The warrior greeted the kit. "Do you know where we are?" She asked getting up. She realized there were trees all around. She clawed her way up a tree, and sat in the shade. She licked her lips, thirsty. She climbed out of the tree, and padded towards a pool of water. She lapped water, and clawed up the same tree again. The tree was overlooking the sunny clearing. "Swiftkit! There's some water over there!" Embershade called from the tree, pointing with her tail towards the pool of water.

"i don't exactly know but for some reason i think many cats once trained here." For a moment the kit seemed to have a wisdom beyond her years. "i wonder why i feel so strongly that that is so?" she said to Embershade.

"Maybe it's a sign from StarClan?" Embershade suggested, still relaxing in the tree.

"Maybe, but what could they possibly be trying to tell me about this sandy hallow?" Swiftkit wondered aloud. Sniffing closely she could very faintly smell a familiar smell but she couldn't quite place it.

Embershade saw Swiftkit sniff. She climbed out of the tree, and stood next to Swiftkit, and scented a familiar smell. "I-it smells like me." She whispered to herself.

"what?!" Swiftkit sniffed again and realized she was right. "Why is your smell here? have you been here before?"

"I-I don't know." Embershade stuttered.

She thought of when she was a kit. She did remember dreaming about catching mice, and voles.

"Oh! I remember!" She meowed when the memories came flooding into her mind. "I was dreaming, and I dreamed I caught mice and voles." She recalled.

She clawed her way up the same tree again, and sniffed. She smelled her own scent again! More clearly though, she had dreamed when she was an apprentice of being a great tree climber, catching squirrels as well. It turns out, she had turned into a great tree climber, and had great skills in trees.

"Hey Swiftkit!" She called. "There's more smell over here! Just don't climb up the tree! I don't want you to get hurt!" She looked around.

The leaves were orange, red, and brown, because it was Leaffall. She had been here in Greenleaf, while the leaves were still green. She had never payed attention to the pretty leaves before. She decided when she woke up, she would pay more attention to the leaves. She was so lost in thought, she hadn't seen the leaves start "dancing" around.

"Woh! look at that!" Swiftkit mewed looking up at the leaves. She didn't feel any wind though so she stared at the leaves in complete wonder. On leaf fell and Swiftkit quickly snatched it out of the air. The leaf was warm as if it was heated by the sun.

Embershade snapped back into the current world. She pricked her ears at Swiftkit's compliment. She looked at the leaves, and was fascinated. She was still in the tree, and was glad she didn't wake up yet. Or had she...? DUN DUN DUNUNNNN She looked at the "dancing" leaves, and felt like a kit. She snatched a claw out and caught a leaf as it fell. She stared at it with fascination, and let it drop. She snagged out another claw, and caught another leaf as it fell. She barely noticed the rain, until a drip landed on her head.

As the rain reach Swiftkit she felt a change in the air. it no longer seemed warm but cold and a sudden gust of frezzing wind blasted through her coat. "Oh! This cold! it reminds me of my first leaf-bare!"

Embershade dropped the leaf, and climbed down the tree carefully. She jumped and pawed at the rain, until she felt it was morning and it was time to wake up. She opened her eyes and found herself in the warriors den.

Swiftkit looked up at the stars through the branches of the trees and saw the light beginning to grow. She sighed, she was hoping she could find out more about the mysterious clearing but she closed her eyes and woke back in the nursery.
