A Tragic Accident

Leaf-Bare was approaching fast, and most leaves had already changed color and fallen to the ground. Berrysplash padded through the territory, tasting the air. She was on the lookout for any prey. RiverClan warriors usually only hunted fish, but she knew the clan needed all the prey they could get. Soon, Berrysplash caught the scent of a rabbit, spying it near a tree. Imitating the ThunderClan warriors she sometimes watched from across the river, she went into a hunter's crouch. She stalked up to the rabbit, and pounced. Berrysplash mannaged to grab the rabbit, but it flailed around, and managed to swipe it's claws across her eyes. She shrieked as everything turned red, then black, loosing her hold on her prey, which quickly ran away. Berrysplash brought a paw to her eyes, trying to clear them, but it didn't work. Berrysplash was blind. She let out a yowl, both from pain and shock, collapsing onto the ground.

Silvershade, who was once again on a patrol, heard Berrysplash's yowl nearby from the river where she was fishing during her routine. She jumped, sending a fish un-intentionally flying out of the water. She pelted towards the sound. Oh god, please don't let her be hurt, she thought. As she came to the she-cat she almost screamed when she saw the blood gushing from under her paws. Without a word she picked the smaller warrior up by the scruff and started to drag her back to camp.

Berrysplash came to soon after, feeling Silvershade's teeth in her scruff. "Can't... see..." She whimpered.

"Don't worry, we'll get you back to camp and get you fixed up right away," she murmured. She was about halfway back to camp.

Berrysplash winced at that. How can you fix blindness? She thought. I might have to become an elder early... The memories of a few moments ago returned to her. "Tried to catch rabbit... Scratched my eyes.."

"That might be the reason why we're a fishing Clan," she murmured to herself, but loud enough for Berrysplash to hear. She saw the camp entrance just ahead and picked up her pace. When she got there, she laid the injured warrior down on the cold, late leaf-fall ground and slumped down on the ground herself. "Morningpaw!" she yowled.

Berrysplash let out a sad, defeated laugh. "The Clan... needed all the food we could get, so I just thought..." She trailed off, her now sightless eyes staring into the distance.

Morningpaw poked her head out of the Medicine Den. "Yes?" she said. Then she saw Berysplash on the ground, blood trickling from her eyes. She hurried over, inspecting the wound. "What happened?" she asked, quickly running through her mind what would treat eyes. Eyes, eyes, eyes. What was needed for eyes?

Berrysplash winced at the pain in her eyes, and let out a barely audible growl before speaking. "A rabbit scratched my eyes..."

Morningpaw nodded, thinking. Celandine! She quickly took off for her den. She wrapped cobweb around one paw and grabbed some celandine and dipped a bit of moss on the little pool in the corner. Running back out, she set down the herbs. She carefully washed away the blood with the moss. The wounds appeared and she winced slightly. She chewed a bit of celandine in her mouth and then let the juice trickle carefully onto both of Berrysplash's eyes. She then put cobweb over the wounds. "That is all I can do for now," she said. "Silvershade, can you carefully bring her to my den?"

Silvershade obliged.

Morningpaw followed. She check one of the nests, fixing it, before motioning to it. "Place her here," she said

And the she-cat did so.

Berrysplash purred softly, despite the pain. "It's great to know that there are cats who care about me, despite the trouble I can cause..."

Hearing the news from someone else in camp, Froststar practically darted into the den. "Berrysplash, are you okay?" She asked, her voice laced with worry. She looked from the warrior to the medicine cat, expecting an answer.
