Prologue
Rosestar’s shadowy figure crept around the shadows, standing next to a stream as it tumbled and rattled at her paws. She watched it for a while, spotting fish as they forced their way upstream, and the occasional frog, until Cracklestar came into view. “Rosestar.” offered the friendly tone. “Cracklestar.” Rosestar’s voice echoed, but with the slightest tint of unease. “StarClan’s angry. Furious, even, Cracklestar. Because you’re a murderer!”

Chapter 1
“Shadetail, have you sent out the Dawn Patrol?” came the yawn from Cracklestar as the she-cat padded up, her black tail quivering. “Yes, Cracklestar, but there seems to be a problem. You need to come now.” The leader looked up, stunned at the deputy’s voice, and pushed herself up, acting as if it took all the effort in her body. She looked out the small hole in the roof, barley able to catch the sun through it. With a sigh, she padded out. Once she came out of the winding maze, she noticed the trees around her. She was in ThunderClan’s old territory. The Clans had abandoned the Lake seasons ago, heading off farther than the Lake to find a new home for reasons these two new Clans hadn’t known.
“There, Cracklestar.” said the deputy, pointing with her tail to a swiftly moving gray blur. “Hmm….Possibly a kittypet. No matter. We’ll have some warriors drive it back towards it’s twolegs. Then we’ll be done with it. Alright?” “Yes, Cracklestar. I’ll get Doveflight and her sisters, Delicatefoot and Whisperear on it.” and Cracklestar watched as she leapt away into the dry ferns.
